The cycle tour offers the possibility to discover the landscape of Transylvania, a land of myth, history, culture and beautiful nature. The 8 days tour will guide you through the historical villages where you will visit some of the most beautiful middle age fortified churches, cycling along rural landscapes and re-discovering long forgotten handcrafts that are still alive in this beautiful part of Romania. The Transylvanian forests, lush meadows and plains dotted with haystacks, are home to an impressive number of insects, birds, reptiles and animals and will surround nature lovers with unspoiled medieval landscape.

Itinerary from day to day

Day 1: Transfer by bus from Bucharest (Otopeni Airport) to Sighisoara. In the evening dinner and accommodation at the hotel in the very center of the last inhabited medieval fortress: Sighisoara.

Day 2 (36 km by bike): Transfer to Saros pe Tarnave by bus. From here we follow by bikes a beautiful road through flowering meadows to the village of Biertan.

Here we visit the fortified church which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We continue our bike trip through villages and forests until we reach the village of Mosna. Here will have a traditional lunch organized at a small farm in the village. After lunch we bike to our final destination: Medias. Transfer back to Sighisoara. In the evening dinner and accommodation at the same hotel.

bearDay 3 (around 20 km by bike): The first half of the day we will cycle along the Breite Plateau, having the opportunity to discover the nature’s diversity in plants and butterflies on the flower-filled meadows where we will also have a picnic lunch. The second half of the day we’ll have free time in Sighisoara for visiting one of the most impressing medieval fortresses in Europe (UNESCO World Heritage Site). In the evening dinner and accommodation at the same hotel.

Day 4 (35km by bike): Transfer to Agnita by bus. From Agnita, where we will visit the impressive medieval fortified church, we continue the road by bike through Hartibaciu Plateau to the Hosman village. We will pass the geographical central part of Romania with beautiful landscape where nature and human activities still coexist. Wooded hills, grasslands with butterflies, Saxon villages and fortified churches will accompany us along the road. Hartibaciu Plateau is the secondly Romanian large Natura 2000 site declared for conservation of the birds, after Danube Delta. Transfer to Cisnadioara by bus to a Guesthouse. Dinner and accommodation in Cisnadioara at the outskirts of Sibiu, in a nice and quiet Guesthouse with a beautiful view.

Day 5 (25km by bike): After breakfast, we drive a short way to the village museum in Sibiu (an open air museum with examples of traditional buildings from Transylvania). From here we start our biking trip in the lowland of Cindrel Mountain, on the route Poplaca- Sibiel where we will be able to visit a house of a blacksmith and experience how iron manufacturing was taking place once. Dinner and accommodation in Cisnadioara.

Day 6 (20 km by bike): After breakfast we will cycle from Cisnadioara to Rasinari Monastery fromrollerwhere we will cycle through Dumbrava Forest on a marked unpaved bicycle track to Sibiu. Now it is the time to visit Sibiu, the cultural capital of Europe in 2007. After a guided tour on foot of the city, the rest of the day belongs to each of you to decide how you will spend the rest of the day in Sibiu

At evening we will meet to travel back by bus to Cisnadioara.

Day 7 (40km by bike): After breakfast and a short transfer to Cartisoara, we will begin our ride crossing Fagaras lowlands. This is a picturesque road through small villages, having on one side the highest of the Carpathians (Fagaras Mountains) and on the other side Transylvanian Plateau. We visit with this occasion an old watermill which continue to function in Lisa village. In the late afternoon we will have the opportunity to visit a bear hide, for observing the largest carnivore of our continent in it’s natural environment. Dinner and accommodation in Zarnesti.

Day 8: Transfer to Bucharest Airport.

Characteristics:

This tour addresses to people with love and interest for nature. You don’t have to be a trained athlete to be able to cycle the daily distances but a little bit of cycling experience will be needed. Most of the days travel through secondary roads (both asphalted and earth roads) with little auto traffic.
